As a tertiary, academic medical center, U of U Health’scatchment area encompasses roughly 20% of the US landmass. Coupled with anational shortage of neurologists, we are strategically positioned to developand implement a high-quality TeleNeurology program serving inpatients atregional community hospitals with insufficient neurological coverage. TheTeleNeurology program expands on our well-established, successful TeleStrokeprogram that currently partners with 28 hospitals across the IntermountainWest. We are developing and deploying home-grown telemedicine equipment with astrong emphasis on portability, scalability and cost. Our TeleNeurologyphysician team includes a complement of neurologists, with various subspecialtycertifications and expertise. Consultation includes physician-to-physician andpatient interaction, which enables joint evaluation and assessment of thepatient by both site provider and consulting neurologist. Directphysician-to-physician communication during the consultation enhancesinformation exchange and collaboration. Periodic case reviews and access toongoing educational opportunities enhances our regional network andpartnership.
