I've received several queries lately about using teleheatlh for Occupational Therapy (OT), Speech Therapy and Physical Therapy (PT). It's a natural. Unfortunately, it's hard for providers to get paid for offering those services via telehealth. Most states follow the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) pay schedule for telehealth and those therapies aren't covered, even if they have parity laws. In addition, some states make it extremely difficult for OT, PT and speech therapy providers to work across state borders. That's a shame.
Montana legislators had the foresight to include Speech, OT and PT in their parity law, the law that directs all healthcare insurers to pay the same for telehealth care that they pay for in-person care. That was really a wise inclusion in the bill and we hope other states will see the value of these therapies for their own states.
